There is something about a Chief Minister sitting in a school hall, no podium, no script, just students asking whatever comes to their mind.
That happened in Government Senior Secondary School, Rampur Bushahr, on 3rd October 2026.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu held an interactive session with students. And the students did not hold back.
The Question Everyone Remembers
One student asked him directly: what would you have done if you had not entered politics?
His answer was simple. Farming.
Not a diplomatic answer. Not a “I would have served the nation in another way” answer. He said he would have taken up farming if politics had not worked out.
And earlier, when asked why he chose politics at all, he said he had been interested in it since his student days – and he saw it as a means of public service, not a career move.
Then Came the Announcement
During the session, a student from Government Senior Secondary School, Rachauli, raised a real problem. Her school was running from two locations. There was land available at one site for a permanent building.
She asked for financial help.
The Chief Minister announced Rs. 2 crore for the new school building on the spot. And added that if more funds were needed, the state would provide them.
That is what an interactive session can do – a request, and a decision, in the same room.
Other Questions, Other Answers
- On the rich-poor gap: He called it a matter of concern and said equality in society matters. He said the state government is working towards it.
- On becoming CM as a student: He said the path ahead is shaped by your actions and hard work. No shortcuts.
- On his favourite food: Traditional Himachali cuisine. His favourite dish? Siddu.
- On a Centre of Excellence in Rampur: He said gradual changes are being brought in education and quality institutions are a priority.
- On teachers doing non-teaching duties: Students said it affects their studies. He said the government is working to reduce such duties.
- On shortage of Hindi teachers: One student said her school has one Hindi teacher for around 150 students. He assured an additional teacher.
- On tourism: A student who had travelled to Ayodhya on a state-sponsored exposure visit asked about tourism in Himachal. He pointed to spiritual tourism, Dev culture, religious sites, and Shakti Peeths.
- On mobile phones: He asked students to minimise phone use and reminded them the government has restricted phones in schools.
- On sports: He told them to play sports along with studies, calling childhood the best period of life.
After the Session
He flagged off an Anti-Chitta rally from the school, joined it himself, and administered an anti-drug pledge to the students. The rally passed through Chaudhari Adda and the main market with placards and slogans against drug abuse.
The Takeaway
Out of everything that was discussed – Rs. 2 crore, teachers, tourism, drugs – the answer that stayed with people was the simplest one.
If not politics, then farming.
Sometimes a leader’s most honest answer is not about policy. It is about what he would have been if things had gone differently.
