One deadline to memorize: every appointment-based pickup must be booked by 12:00 noon the day before collection.
Why You’d Contact DPW (and How)
The DPW handles garbage and recycling collection plus Village infrastructure. Most routine collection needs no phone call at all — you just follow the calendar. Contact is required only for appointments, exceptions, and problems. Here’s the breakdown.
1. How to Contact DPW for a Bulk Metal or Appliance Pickup
Use: the online Request for Bulk Metal Pick Up form at www.pelhamny.gov, or call 914-738-2015.
- Collection day: Fridays, by advance appointment only
- Booking deadline: 12:00 noon the day before
- Curbside timing: out by 7:00 AM the day of pickup, and no earlier than 7:00 PM the night before
- Note: there are no bulk metal pickups during holiday weeks
Before you call about a refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, or air conditioner: you must first hire your own licensed contractor to remove the Freon gas and affix their company sticker to the appliance. Only after the Freon-removal sticker is on the unit should you request the pickup.
2. How to Contact DPW for a TV or Computer Monitor Pickup
Use: the online Request for TV/Monitor Pick Up form at www.pelhamny.gov.
- Collection day: the last Friday of every month, by appointment only
- Booking deadline: 12:00 noon the day before
- Curbside timing: by 7:00 AM day of pickup / no earlier than 7:00 PM the night before
TVs and monitors are never accepted in bulk, garbage, or recycling. If you miss the monthly window, the Westchester County H-MRF accepts electronic waste by appointment (see below).
3. How to Contact DPW to Report a Missed Pickup
Use: the MyVOP app — it has a built-in missed-pickup report. You can also call 914-738-2015 or email sanitation@pelhamny.gov during office hours.
Before reporting, check the calendar for a holiday. Collections are suspended entirely on these 2026 dates, and bulk is suspended for the whole holiday week:
New Year’s Day (Thu 1/1) · MLK Jr. Day (Mon 1/19) · Presidents Day (Mon 2/16) · Good Friday (Fri 4/3) · Memorial Day (Mon 5/25) · July 4th (Sat 7/4 — and no pickup Fri 7/3) · Labor Day (Mon 9/7) · Columbus Day (Mon 10/12) · Election Day (Tue 11/3) · Veterans Day (Wed 11/11) · Thanksgiving (Thu 11/26) · Thanksgiving Friday (Fri 11/27) · Christmas Day (Fri 12/25)
Holiday weeks also shift some recycling: Village-Wide Recycling moves to Thursday 4/2, Thursday 7/2, Wednesday 11/25, and Thursday 12/24 in 2026.
4. How to Contact DPW to Confirm Your Collection Day
Use: www.pelhamny.gov — the site gives details specific to your address — or the MyVOP app.
- Area A garbage — Monday (Pelville, Chester Park)
- Area B garbage — Tuesday (Pelham Heights, Pelhamwood)
- Apartments / Commercial — Monday, Wednesday, Friday (Fifth Avenue, Wolfs Lane, Boulevard West, 55 First Street, Lincoln Avenue)
- Bulk (Areas A & B) — twice monthly, as marked on the calendar
Garbage goes in Village-provided Toters for rear-yard collection by 7:00 AM. Recycling goes curbside in Village-provided Toters by 7:00 AM (blue lid = commingled, green lid = paper/cardboard).
5. How to Contact the Village About Seasonal Collections
No call needed for leaves. During Spring Leaf Collection (March 15 – April 30) and Fall Leaf Collection (October 15 – December 15), place loose leaves only curbside; DPW rotates through the Village section by section.
Organics: Wednesdays, May 6 – October 7, 2026, in a biodegradable bag or open 30–35 gallon container, out by 7:00 AM (or after 7:00 PM the night before). There is no organic pickup between December 15 and March 15 — hold or dispose of the material yourself.
Christmas trees: collected December 26 – January 31, bare of ornaments, lights, stands, and garland. No wreaths.
If a seasonal pickup is skipped in your section, that’s a MyVOP report or a call to 914-738-2015.
6. How to Contact Westchester County for Household Hazardous Waste
Some items the Village cannot take at all. For these, contact the county directly:

- Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF), Valhalla, NY — by appointment only
Accepted by appointment: automotive fluids (except motor oil), up to four car tires per household, electronic waste (computers, TVs, cell phones), expired pharmaceuticals, fire extinguishers, fluorescent and CFL bulbs, kerosene and flammable liquids, mercury thermometers and thermostats, polishes, oil and latex paint plus stains and wood preservatives, pesticides and herbicides, photo and pool chemicals, propane tanks, rechargeable and vehicle batteries, refrigerant-containing appliances, and textiles.
7. How to Contact the Village if You’re a Business or Merchant
The Village does not collect trash from businesses — you must arrange a private carter. However, Village rules on timing and placement still apply, and there’s a specific obligation:
Businesses must notify the police when they leave trash or rubbish curbside for a private carter to collect.
Commercial schedule reference: garbage Monday/Wednesday/Friday (no more than one 96-gallon Toter); corrugated cardboard Tuesday and Thursday (clean cardboard need not be flattened); paper and commingled Thursday, kept in separate containers. All material must be curbside between 7:00 and 9:00 AM on collection day only, and must not be left out after collection is complete.

8. How to Get an Answer Without Contacting Anyone
For “which bin does this go in?” questions, the fastest route is the Recycle Coach app, which lets you search a specific item and returns discard instructions for Pelham. The MyVOP app covers schedules.
Two rules that prevent most calls:
- Never bag recyclables. Commingled or paper placed in any plastic bag will not be accepted.
- Paint must be hardened before bulk collection — mix in cat litter or another absorbent, let it set for a few days, then place it at the curb on garbage day with the top off, beside the garbage but not inside the Toter or a bag.
What DPW Cannot Help You With
Do not put these out and do not expect a pickup — they must be handled privately or through the county:
- Construction and demolition materials of any kind
- Containers used for hazardous materials, safes, aluminum siding, car parts
- Cell phones
- Radiological medical waste (return it to the hospital or facility that provided treatment)
- Household hazardous waste: chemicals, batteries other than alkaline and carbon-zinc, automotive fluids, tires
- Not accepted in bulk: car batteries, car tires, glass, building debris, bathtubs/sinks/toilets, tree stumps and logs, concrete/cement/asphalt, dirt and rocks, TVs and monitors
- Not accepted with organics: garbage, logs, tree stumps, large branches, pumpkins
