On 29 July 2026 SBI Cards and Payment Services Limited told the exchanges it had launched the Google Pay Flex SBI Card. You apply and redeem Stars in the Google Pay app. SBI Card is the issuer— bills, limit, disputes and hotlisting sit with the company, not with Google and not with State Bank of India branch staff.

Do not call SBI (the bank) 1800 11 2211 for this plastic. SBI Card is a listed NBFC (SBICARD). Google Pay’s own India help page sends billing, underwriting, fraud and statements to 1800 180 1290 and customercare@sbicard.com. Stars that will not redeem in the app go to Google Pay India support.

2. What launched on 29 July 2026

SBI Card disclosed the launch under SEBI LODR Regulations 30 and 51. The product sits inside Flex by Google Pay. It is a contactless credit card on RuPay or Visa. The RuPay variant can be linked to UPI; both can be tokenised in Google Pay for tap-to-pay. The release is marketing, not the MITC. Interest, late fee, forex, which MCCs earn Stars, and “eligible transactions” are on the bank T&Cs and in the Flex section of the app. Google Pay also partners Axis Bank for Flex — if your app issued an Axis Flex card, use Axis 1860-419-5555, not this SBI Card desk.

4. How to apply and how to follow up

Apply in Google Pay (official steps)

1. Open Google Pay → bottom Money → Apply → Continue.
2. Enter personal and employment details. Read and accept T&Cs.
3. OTP → Submit application. Complete Aadhaar + PAN verification.
4. Optional: consent to a “privacy-safe signal” for faster issuance. Google says it does not share user-level transaction data.
5. If SBI Card approves, the digital card appears in-app. Keep the application / customer ID.

GPay may route you to Axis instead of SBI. Check the issuer name on the Flex home screen before you call anyone.

Set PIN and pay

PIN via SBI Card website (My Account → Manage Pin), SBI Card app, or IVR 1860 180 1290 option 6. For UPI on RuPay, add the card in Google Pay and complete UPI PIN. Pay the bill via sbicard.com Paynet, the SBI Card app, NEFT, or the Flex payment settings in GPay.

6. Safety notes

• Nobody from SBI Card or Google will ask for full card number + CVV + OTP on a new WhatsApp. Official SBI Card WhatsApp is 90040 22022 after you message Hi.
• Flex usage is reported to CIBIL. Missed payments hurt the score. That is on the Google Pay Flex help page.
• “Instant application” is not a guaranteed yes. The issuing bank underwrites.
• Visa Flex cannot do UPI QR the way RuPay can. Do not open a Stars ticket for a Visa checkout that never offered Stars.
• A third-party site charging a “processing fee” to UPI for this card is not this launch.

7. Short FAQ

I only read the exchange filing. Do I have a card?
No. Apply in Google Pay and wait for SBI Card approval.

Can I walk into an SBI branch?
Not for this product. The journey is digital in Google Pay. Branches of State Bank of India do not issue SBI Card products as a default desk.

Is this the same as PhonePe HDFC Uno?
No. Different issuer, different app, different reward currency (Stars vs HDFC points).

Should I take this card?
This article will not say so. It is a ₹499 fee credit line. Pay the statement in full if you only want Stars.
