Mumbai, August 5, 2026 — Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma presented the National Integration and Social Harmony Award to Palga Rinpoche, the 8th reincarnate Lama of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition from Ladakh, and senior thinker Indresh Kumar at a function held in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The awards were given in recognition of their significant contributions towards promoting peace, national integration and social harmony.
The programme was organised at the initiative of Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Shri Anna Bansode. Representatives of various faiths, members of the Buddhist Sangha and other invited dignitaries attended the event.
On the occasion, the Governor also presented Kathina robes (Chivar Daan) to Buddhist monks.
